The wife of Ondo State governor, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, says that the Foundation for Wives of Ondo State Officials and Female Political Appointees (FOWOSO) promotes socio-economic advancement of women in the state.
Anyanwu-Akeredolu, a founder of FOWOSO, stated this on Thursday at the Parade and Exhibition of FOWOSO Fourth Summit in Akure.
She explained that the initiative was not a mere gathering of women to mark the time but that it was an avenue for women positive transformation and the betterment of the society.
According to her, FOWOSO is for good of the state which requires efforts and support of everybody for its sustenance and achievement of its aims and objectives.
The governor’s wife stated that a lof of women had become economically independent through the initiative.
The founder of FOWOSO noted that the initiative often organised seminars and workshops for women on sex education, economy, political involvement and how to explore their potentials to make viable families.
She, therefore, appreciated the N200 million donation by Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers for the construction of FOWOSO Secretariat.
Also speaking, the Amotekun Commander in Ondo State, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, described the governor’s wife as a pillar of support for women in the state.
Adeleye said that the FOWOSO’s founder was bent in championing the advancement of women in her programmes and girl child through BEMORE Initiative.
He explained that the BEMORE Initiative was like a nursery where the future leaders of FOWOSO were being raised.
“FOWOSO is indeed a gathering of current and future women.
“This year’s celebration which began yesterday with a summit where critical matters touching on national issues and the women are being handled.
“The summit plays a critical role in educating, enlightening and sensitizing stakeholders on their role toward accelerating the attainment of the ideal of equal opportunities for women and the girl child,” he stated.
The Amotekun Commander also lauded the governor’s wife on efforts being made to improve the health prospects of women through prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of cancer related issues.
