*Returns Orisa Designs To President Villa.
Brazil’s new President Lula has just signed into law a bill to recognize March 21 of every year as Orisa Day. Orisa means the Yoruba gods and goddesses. This is the best news for me so far this year as it shows the tenacity of our people in the diaspora to keep our religion alive after many centuries of separation and disconnection by slavery. In Nigeria, even our kings are desecrating the traditions, bowing ignorantly to the religions imported from the Middle East. Africa needs a cultural revival, that accentuates our ancestral faith and version about cosmogony. We need to keep our gods and goddesses alive. I am thrilled that our people in the diaspora, in Brazil, Cuba and other places are poised to lead this cultural renewal.
