*ONDO STATE GOVT COMMENDS TEACHERS PUNCTUALITY AS SCHOOL’S RESUME, APPEALS TO PARENTS TO PATRONIZE PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOLS*
Ondo State Government has commended teachers in public Primary Schools for being punctual at their duty posts and living up to expectations as pupils resumed in their various schools for the second term of 2022/2023 academic session across the State.
The Chairman Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board Mr Victor Olabimtan gave the commendation at the Mega Primary School, Owo after the completion of the on the spot assessment of resumption activities in selected schools across the State.
It is instructive to note that prior the commencement of the new term the Board has approved the composition of four Monitoring Teams to under take on the spot assessment of resumption activities in some schools in nine of tbe eighteen local Government Areas that made up the State.
Team -1 was led by the Executive Chairman himself Mr Olabimtan, Team -2 by FTM -2, Team -3 by Princess Funmilayo Ademulegun-Brown the FTM -1 and the last team led by the Universal Basic Education Commission Ondo State Coordinator Mrs Olanike Adams.
Olabimtan who was impressed by the earnest commencement of teaching and neatness of environment of most of the schools visited, appealed to parents and guardians to release their children and wards to come to schools as works have begun in earnest.
According to him, parents and guardians must realized the teaching profession has advanced beyond the yesteryears of lackadaisical attitude and is now more result oriented. They must know that right from the first day of resumption classes have begun and must know that their wards are losing out by not being in school.
The Chairman who was not happy with the situation of pupils poor turned out and attendance in schools said keeping the children at home or farms untill next week or when its convenient for them is not good for the upbringing of the children who should have been in their classes in the various schools like some of their mates
Consequently, to address the malfeasance The Chairman directed all the Headmasters(HM) in all the schools In the State to commence immediately the conduct of HM’s Test and the result must be part of the Continuous Assessment for the term.
According to him, news will get to those at homes and the farms stead that classes had actually began, test conducted and they are losing out. This he said will have a positive effect on the attendance in schools from Monday.
The former Chairman of Ondo State Teaching Service Commission TESCOM, reiterated the commitment of the present administration to the growth and development of basic education sector appealed to parents and guardians to continue to patronize Public Primary Schools because it is their project.
Olabimtan said the fact is uncontroverted that no Private School in the State can boost of the quality of teaching and non teaching personnel that are in Public Primary Schools including the learning environment.
According to him the Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu administration like the previous ones have invested a lot of public funds to up scaled and upgrade the basic education sector especially the Primary School sector to make teaching and learning more attractive.
He said the Board under his leadership will continue to do its best to build on the existing legacies to make the basic education sector the best in the country.
The Permanent Secretary Chief Dele Akinnagbe and the Director of School Services Mr Adesoji Okedusi who spoke in the same vein said the Board will do its best to address the challenges of infrastructure deficits identified in the schools visited.
