Assembly Poll: Most Polling units Witness Vote Buying And Apathy.
The elections of the House of Assembly conducted today has witnessed vote buying and apathy in most of the polling units visited in Akure South Local Government , Areas of Ondo State.
Most people were seen writing down their names and account numbers with some of the party leaders after they have casted their votes to the candidates of their party while they transferred some amount of money to those electorates that voted for them.
Meanwhile, most people do not come out to exercise their franchise. Some of the Youths that supposed to vote were seen playing football along side the Arakale and Oda road while election was going on.
A visit to Ward five , Unit-29, 23,54,42, 22, 49, Ward 2 , Unit- 28, 30 and Ward 11, Unit – 004 , all in Akure South Local Government respectively, witnessed low voters town out and vote apathy. Some of the voters intervied attributed the low turn out of voters to be disappointment experienced during the Presidential election dated 25th, Mach,2023 as the elections was not transmitted electronically as promised by the INEC.
According to Pastor Oluwagbenga Odusoga after casted his vote said that people felt that this time around their vote may not count and so they didn’t believe in the process again and that was why people do not come out to vote as expected.
In another development, Mr Faleye Babatunde described the elections as free,fair and credible. He said the low turn out of the electorates was as a result of the cashless policies that everyone are witnessing are some of the reasons that caused the low turnout.He said people do not have money to transport themselves to the venue of the election.
Also, one of the Contestants, Adeolu Adeniran of the People’s Democratic Party, in polling unit 30 in ward 2 said he believed that he is going to win the election. He said his people believed in his credibility and as such people would vote for him. He described the election as peaceful .
The Security personnel were on top of their games as they were found patrolling round the streets to ensure that the whole electoral process go on smoothly.
