New IPR Report with Cision! The Business Case for Focusing on Employee Mental Health

This is an IPR Signature Study in partnership with Cision
The Institute for Public Relations and Cision examined how employees and companies discussed mental health on Twitter. This report includes recommendations for addressing mental health and discusses topics such as burnout, quiet quitting, corporate mental health initiatives, and the four-day workweek.
Cision and the Institute for Public Relations analyzed 1.3 million+ Tweets using Brandwatch’s Consumer Research tool from Jan. 1- Oct. 31, 2022. The collection of content was limited to the United States and posts that discussed mental health and wellness within the workplace.
Key findings include:
— Gen Z and Millennials were the most frequent contributors to conversations about mental health.
— Employees want benefits and policies to support their mental health.
These benefits include more flexibility, better time-off policies, and stronger leave programs.
— Organizations who backed their claims of supporting mental health were praised on social media.
Organizations were attacked that had not implemented mental health programs.
— Twitter users applauded employee-run mental health and illness resource groups (ERGs) for serving as trusted and supportive communities.
The report made five recommendations for leaders:
Provide benefits such as “mental health days.”
Support management to better understand well-being and belonging.
Invest financially in employee wellness.
Provide opportunities for social support.
Listen to employees about their mental health needs.
