Ondo: Ikun Indigenes Prays For Bumper Harvest.

The Indigenes of Ikun -Akoko Community have prayed for the Bumper harvest in this year’s Day celebration that would be coming up on the 19th of August, 2023 in Akoko. This was disclosed by Elder Titus Orimijupa, President, Ikun Progressive Union, Ikun -Akoko, Ondo State, where he and his team were addressing crops of Journalists at the Press Conference on the pre- Ikun Day 2023, held at the Ondo State Development Investment Agency–(ONDIPA), in the State House, Akure.
The President, who spoke on behalf of HRM, kaabiyesi, Oba Michael Adedoyin, Olokun of Ikun- Akoko. The Olokun-in-Council and the Ihaare-In-Council, said his team were there to tell the whole world about the colourful and beautiful Ikun Day that had already kicked off today, with this Press Conference. While fasting and prayer towards the celebration was ongoing. His words “we are here on behalf of HRM, Olokun of Ikun -Akoko, the Olokun -in-Council, the Ihaare -In-Council and the good people of Ikun -Akoko, to announce to the world through your noble media, the Ikun Day 2023, which kicks off today with this Press Conference”. He said “the ceremony usually draw a lot of attention and attendance from people within the community, neighbouring towns in Akoko land and Ose Local Government, within the state. With many of our sons and daughters in the Diaspora on ground to attend the August Ceremony”.
According to him, the anniversary would feature fund raising of about thirty two Million Naira(N32Million Naira), which would be used for the sustainability of the development of the community and for the completion of the Palace Administrative Block. He explained further that the Ikun community practiced farming, being the lively hood and means of revenue generation of the people.
He said apart from being an agarian community, the Ikun -Akoko also had Lime Stones which had not been taped by the government. He said they also have Timber and Koko in large quantities and other solid raw materials which would involve the efforts of the government, before it would be made available for the use of the state and the community at large.
He also spoked on the tourism potential in the community, like the Erunwakun rock which according to him, served as protection to his people during the kiriji war in the olden day, whenever the enemies that came to attack the people of the community. Elder Titus, who said a maximum security for the visitors and other Guests of honour that would been gracing the occasion, had been in place as they had made an arrangement with the Security Agency in the state towards the event.
He opined that, apart from the government Security, men of the local Vigilante who are vast within the nooks and crannies of the terrain, would also be on ground to give support to the men of the government Security Agency, in order to give maximum security for the protection of the people in the community and the visitors that would be coming, so that the whole event would end well.
In another development, Elder Titus said the Anniversary would feature pounded yam eating competition, which was meant to signal the arrival of new yam and to showcase their rich cultural heritage to the world. He said the participants would receive prizes for the competition. He also made mentioned of the ‘Ayo Olopon’ (indoor games) that would be played by different people in the community.
Others activities of the event would include Marathon race, awards and Gala nite as well as the Honorary chieftaincy title to the chief launcher of the day, who was not an indigene of the community but had contributed immensely to the development of the Ikun Akoko Community. Other non indigenes that would be honoured are Igbos, Ighalas, Idomas, Hausa Community people and host of others.
When asked about the personalities that were respected in the event? Elder Titus had this to say, “the anniversary was going to be 32nd edition which would be graced by top government functionaries and other reputable personality in the society”. He said people like Ondo State Acting Governor, Secretary to the Ondo State government, Speaker, Ondo State House of the Assembly, Alhaji Jimoh Ojoojumo, HRM, the Aralepo of Isikan. In Akure would be the Royal father of the Day, Religious Leaders, Senators, Pastor Jide Ipinsagba, Hon. Gboyega Adefarati, who is representing Akoko South West and South East Federal Constituency and hosts of others are respected in the great event.
In attendance are President of the Ikun progressive Union, Ikun -Akoko, Elder Titus Orimijupa, Rotarian Tunde Akande, Chief Bobajiro, Chief Eniayedun Austin Dele and Titilayo who is the media aid of the Union and host of others.
