Ulefunta Festival: How Gen.Tukur Buratai. Rtd Received “Baakore” Traditional Title.

It was a colourful ceremony as the Deji of Akure Kingdom Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II, the paramount ruler of Akure Kingdom decorated Major General Turkur Yusuf Buratai-Rtd at this year’s Ulefunta Festival 2023, with a highly respected traditional title of “Baakore of Akure Kingdom” in a colourful style.
General Turkur Yusuf Buratai- Rtd, was a former Chief of Army Staff during the administration of the former President, Muhammadu Buhari. He was honoured with this great traditional title as a mark of recognition to his contribution towards the security Architectural development of the Military, for the purpose of saving the lives and properties of the people in the society, as well as defending the territorial integrity of the country and his other immense contribution to the economy and Human capital development in the society.
In another development, part of his contributions towards the Human capital development was a testament from the remarks made by one of the indigene of Akure Kingdom, that had benefited from the leadership training of General Turkur Yusuf Buratai- Rtd was Dr. Olumuyiwa Syester Adu, popularly called “Cubana”, said that the training he got from the leadership of the General while he was at the Defense Academy as a Cadet officer was the one that made him strong and agile till today.
According to Adu, he said General Turkur Yusuf Buratai- Rtd deserved the honour as he had contributed his own quota to the Human capital development and the economy of the country in one way or the other.
The General who supported Adu’s pledge of five Million naira(5m) and full load of trailer with bag of cement as part of his contribution towards the proposed Akure Teaching Hospital that would be sited in Ilu Abo, in Akure with some amount of money as a solidarity support to be added to that of the one pledged by Adu, for the support towards this year’s Ulefunta Festival.
In his remarks, General Buratai appreciated the Deji of Akure and other eminent personalities that thought it wise enough to honour him with the title. After the decorations, a certificate was given as an evidence or mark of reward towards the honour.
