SUBEB: Promote Quality Education For All, Olabimtan Tells Pressmen .

The Chairman, Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board- SUBEB , Chief Victor Olabimtan has urged the Pressmen to advocate and promote quality of education for all among the citizens of the country in their respective medium organizations. Stating this today at the board headquarters in Akure in a programme titled: “The Meet-The -Media Parley ” Olabimtan said the Press is critical because of the constitutional roles they played in the society as a bridge between the government and the people. He said the Press would continue to play pivotal role in delivering dividends of democracy to the public through its watch dog function especially in helping the Board to deliver on it’s core mandate of FREE AND COMPULSORY NINE YEARS QUALITY EDUCATION POLICY.
His words ” The Press is critical because without your cooperation all our efforts and activities to implement the Government Education policy will come nothing as you are the ears, the eyes, the nose and the hands of the people”.
In another development, the Chairman of the board said one of the areas we need the collaborative efforts of the Press is in the realm of massive advocacy against the growing menace of ” our of school Children in the state” . According to him, the trends had become a serious socioeconomic issues in the society as it has become a breading ground for social and political miscreants. He said the menace is growing everyday and they need the efforts of all stakeholders especially the Pressmen through their Reportage and continuous advocacy on Radio and Television stations harping on the advantages of a literate society over and illiterate one .
Achievements
Similarly , Chief Olabimtan used the occasion to tell the success stories of the organization under his leadership. He said the organization had carried out some of activities which includes promotion of Teachers and Staff as at when due, recruitment of 1200 class Teachers in 2021 to fill critical vacancies in Teaching Staff.
Other , include promotion of Teachers to Grade Level 16, conducting continuous professional Teacher Development Programme and host of others.
While commending the efforts of the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board in improving infrastructure and making teaching and learning more attractive to the learners in the schools, he also made mentioned of the challenges facing the schools across the State. In his words ” The efforts of the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board in improving infrastructure and making teaching and learning more attractive are commendable. However, there are still challenges to be addressed, such as vandalism of school properties and land encroachment. I urge everyone to play their part in protecting and promoting education in our society. Together we can ensure that every child has access to quality Education ” he said.
Smart School
On the area of smart school project in Ondo State, Owo, Chief Olabimtan said the school will commence operations next academic session -September, ,2024. He explained that the Smart School Project birthed by UBEC Abuja is a special class of Basic Education Schools which was meant for gifted Pupils to allow them grow and study at their pace without retardation of any kind . He went further by saying that the construction of the Technological Computer based School is almost completed remaining some landscaping to beautify the environment.
According to him, the admission into the school would be different from what is obtainable into usual Public Schools .
Explaining, he said the Smart School has two arms ,Primary and JSS of which all the teaching staff including the principal and Head Teacher of the School have been recruited through competitive selection process conducted by the JAMB and monitored by UBEC officials from Abuja simultaneously across the country.
